HLT30121 Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care

This qualification reflects the role of individuals working in health care support roles in a diversityof locations including urban, rural and remote settings. It is specific to Aboriginal and/or TorresStrait Islander people who work under general supervision as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team providing primary health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanderclients and communities. At this level, work involves the provision of generalist health servicesand the use of some discretion and judgment within the parameters of clearly defined plans,policies and procedures to guide work activities.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in a range of health care settings includingAboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community organisations, and the public or private healthsector.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth andState/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to thisqualification at the time of publication.

On entry to the course Learners must supply evidence of the following mandatory checks:

•  Australian Federal Police (AFP) National Criminal History Check
•  Working With Children Check (WWCC)
•  Immunisations and screening.

Entry Requirements Enrolment within this course will focus on recruiting Learners from the following:

– Must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, as the course contains Aboriginal Health Worker units, and is designed for AHW roles, which are identified positions, open only to ATSI people:

– Existing workers working in an Aboriginal community setting or with Aboriginal clients and communities without prior qualifications and needing to gain at least entry qualification or Aboriginal workers seeking a career transition with appropriate workplace access and life experience;

– Be 18 years or above at the date of entry. This qualification requires travel to and from the RTO for assessment and training. Please contact your teacher if you require accommodation for the two-week blocks of your training/assessment. See table below.

– Over the volume of units, you will need to have LLN&D skills between level 2-4 depending on the requirements in each unit;

– Basic computer skills, including the ability to access and search the internet, use software (such as Microsoft Word) to create documents, upload and download documents, attach as use
devices such as USB flash drives;

– Access to a computer and high-speed internet access to access the materials on the Organisation’s online learning platform (Cloud Assess ).

arrangements can be made to submit assessments by email.

If you are not currently employed or volunteering in industry, during your course you will be required to complete Skills Development /vocational placement so you can start practising your new skills in a real-world environment.

You’ll be required to work shifts determined by your placement provider, and these can include early mornings or late nights, any day of the week, including public holidays. Dijan Training Program will assist in arranging suitable placements.

Completing placement is compulsory, and you will be expected to manage family and work commitments to complete your shifts. You are required to complete 323 hours of placement to satisfy this component of your qualification.

You are required to attend the RTO in Katherine for learning blocks throughout your course
